In 12 months ended March 2008, travel and tourism generated $4.3 billion of expenditure in South Australia. (TRA)
In the 12 months ended March 2008, South Australia received around 5.7 million visitors and 25.6 million visitor nights.
South Australians travelling within their own State account for around 38% of nights, visitors from interstate 36% and international visitors 26% of nights. (TRA).
Figures for the 12 months ended March 2008 show South Australia attracted 364,100 international visitors and 6.6 million international visitor nights.
In the year ended March 2008, 7.0 % of international visitors to Australia spent time in SA, accounting for 4.1 % of the total nights spent by international visitor in Australia.
UK was the largest single international origin of visitors to South Australia during the 12 months ended March 2008 accounting for 21% of our visitors. Germany provided a further 9% and other Europe 20%, so that Europe in total was South Australia's biggest regional source of international visitors accounting for 50% of our visitors1. (TRA, IVS)
During the 12 months ended March 2008, interstate markets generated 1,926,000 visitors to SA, and 9,185,000 visitor nights.
SA's national share of interstate visitors was 7.8%, and nights was 7.0%.
Victoria and NSW are the State's most important interstate markets, providing 38% and 28% of SA's interstate visitor nights respectively.
In the year ended March 2008, South Australians made 3,423,000 'net visits' within their own State, and spent 9,847,000 nights in SA.
SA's share of national intrastate visitors was 6.9% and nights was 6.3 %. (TRA, NVS)
Overall demand for hotels, motels and serviced apartments (15 or more rooms) rose 2.8% in South Australia in the 12 months ended December 2007 compared with the previous 12 months ended December 2006, compared with a 3.5% increase nationally.
SA's overall occupancy rate was up from 62.5% in 12 months ended December 2006 to 64.3% for 12 months ended December 2007.
This compares with a rise in the average occupancy rate for Australia as a whole from 64.4 % to 65.6% over the same period. (ABS, STA)
