The South Australian Tourism Commission’s (SATC) strategies link with national and state 2020 strategies, regional strategies and correlate with specific actions in regional Destination Action Plans.

Tourism 2020

Australia’s national long term tourism strategy is “Tourism 2020”. The SATC is an active participant in the National Long Term Tourism Strategy with other state and federal bodies to support key initiatives that will benefit the tourism industry across Australia.

Strategic Plan 2020

The South Australian Strategic Plan (SASP) outlines the headline goal for the tourism industry in the state. The SASP 2020 goal sets a potential growth target for tourism in the state, and is aligned to Australia’s national tourism strategy, “Tourism 2020”.

Destination Action Plans

Destination Action Plans (DAPs) are an outcome-focussed plan that outlines specific projects that will return maximum tourism growth within a particular region. Projects cover development, marketing and events-based activities. Projects included have been identified as realistically able to progress within the next three years. These plans have been developed in conjunction with Regional Tourism Organisations, and the SATC will meet with each Regional Tourism Operator (RTO) every six months to report on DAP progress and seek feedback.

SATC Strategy

The SATC reviews its strategy and tactics annually, within the context of the SASP 2020 potential growth target. The SATC works in conjunction with the tourism industry in order to achieve growth, and our strategy aligns resources to the areas which can help make the biggest difference in growing tourism toward the 2020 potential target.

Regional strategies

While the SATC does not itself create regional tourism plans, these plans are considered when developing our Destination Action Plans. Most regions have strategic tourism plans developed in a program beginning in 2005. The most recent plans can be found below.
