Applications are now open for grants from a State Government program which provides valuable financial and marketing support for events and festivals in regional South Australia.
The South Australian Tourism Commission’s Regional Events and Festivals Program and the Community Events Development Fund helps attract more visitors to the State’s regions and raises the profile of South Australia as a tourism destination.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said South Australia is home to a diverse range of world-class events and festivals, many of which are held in our State’s stunning tourism regions.
“These range from festivals celebrating our premium food and wine – such as the Sea and Vines in McLaren Vale, or Clare Valley Gourmet – to large scale participation events like the Bay to Birdwood, or iconic community affairs like the Tunarama Festival,” Mr Bignell said.
“The Regional Events and Festivals Program supports events which are major drawcards for attracting visitors to the regions, while the Community Events Development Fund assists smaller events looking to grow.
“A primary goal of both programs is ensuring our State maintains a balanced, year-round calendar of events, which will provide consistent benefits to our tourism industry.”
Applications for the Regional Events and Festivals Program and Community Events
Development Fund will close on Thursday 27 March 2014. Successful applicants will be advised in June. There is only one intake of applications per year.
The Community Events Development Fund provides events and festivals with a maximum of $5,000. There is no maximum amount for funding requested through the Regional Events and Festivals Program.
To be eligible for funding, events need to satisfy certain criteria, including their ability to increase visitation and gain publicity for their region.
Mr Bignell said for many successful applicants, funding they receive helps take the event to a new level.
“A grant allocated to the 2013 South Australian Wooden Boat Festival at Goolwa allowed the organisers to bring out UK-based celebrity Griff Rhys Jones to attend the event,” he said.
“His visit resulted in media coverage worth more than $400,000, and promoted the Wooden Boat Festival – and our State – to a worldwide audience.”
