An eye-catching new Bupa Challenge Tour jersey will be worn by thousands of recreational riders taking part in January’s event.
Tourism Minister, Leon Bignell, revealed the 2014 jersey featuring blue sleeves and bright yellow panels on the front and back.
Next year’s Bupa Challenge Tour will again be presented by The Advertiser and will travel from Unley to Victor Harbor. The full distance is 154.5km, with rides of 112.5km, 75.5km and 33km also available.
This is the 11th time recreational riders have taken part in the Santos Tour Down Under.
“This great ride gives thousands of people the chance to experience a stage of a UCI WorldTour event just hours before the professionals,” Mr Bignell said.
“The Bupa Stage 4 ride includes a spread of climbing, descents and flat terrain with four distance options.
“Next year participants will also have their times recorded, an event first that is sure to spark some friendly rivalry.”
Individuals and teams can register for the Bupa Challenge Tour – part of the ŠKODA Breakaway Series – with all teams of five or more eligible to have their team name printed on their event jersey.
Bupa’s General Manager for South Australia, Daniel Gallagher, said Bupa was excited to partner with the Santos Tour Down Under.
“Bupa’s goal is longer, healthier and happier lives, and we know that cycling regularly is a perfect example of a lifestyle change that can have many long term benefits,” Mr Gallagher said.
“This fantastic week of cycling is a natural fit for Bupa given it promotes the importance of living a healthy lifestyle to millions of people.
“Taking part in the Bupa Challenge Tour as a team is a great way for people of all abilities to ride the same course, on the same day, as the professionals.
“Team members can start from different locations and there’s always a great atmosphere as everyone crosses the finish line and gets ready for the professionals to sprint in.”
The Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 19-26 January 2014. The Bupa Challenge Tour will take place on Friday 24 January.
