FDJ returns to contest Santos Tour Down Under
08 January 2013
Emerging French cycling star Arnaud Démare will feature in the FDJ line-up at the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under.
Démare won the UCI Road World Championships under 23 race in 2011, and in August last year took out the first UCI WorldTour race of his career when he claimed victory in the Vattenfall Cyclassics.
Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Mike Turtur said the 21-year-old performed well under pressure and would be accompanied by a strong FDJ team.
“Démare prevailed in the Vattenfall Cyclassics ahead of Andre Greipel, the local favourite,” Turtur said.
“He is a rider with impressive stamina and the ability to deliver in high temperatures, both of which will hold him in good stead for the Santos Tour Down Under.”
Finnish cyclist Jussi Veikkanen, a multiple road race national champion, will also be on the FDJ roster.
“We look forward to welcoming FDJ back to Adelaide and watching the team race through the city and regional South Australia,” said Turtur. “Next month’s race boasts plenty to challenging cyclists and keep fans entertained, with testing climbs like Old Willunga Hill mixed with additions including a grass start in Modbury and a stage finish in Lobethal.”
The FDJ team for the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under will be led by Sport Director Marc Madiot and includes riders Arnaud Démare (FRA), William Bonnet (FRA), Mickaël Delage (FRA), Kenny Elissonde (FRA), Arnaud Courteille (FRA), Jussi Veikkanen (FIN) and Émilien Viennet (FRA).
The Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 20-27 January 2013.
