Free online conferences to assist tourism businesses in the digital age
27 August 2013
South Australian tourism operators are encouraged to attend free forums aimed at boosting their online presence and maintaining their competitiveness in today’s digital age.
The South Australian Tourism Commission is inviting business owners to attend the marketing conferences being held in Adelaide, the Barossa and McLaren Vale in mid September.
The 2013 SA Tourism Online Marketing Conference will feature expert guest presenters and cover topics such as social media reputation management, website content marketing and mobile website design.
Conference attendees will also hear from five major online travel agents, including Expedia and Wotif, and have the chance to schedule individual meetings with them.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the conferences are important for operators looking for opportunities to grow their business and generate sales.
“Increasingly visitors are going online to plan their trips so it is important that businesses have a strong online presence,” Mr Bignell said.
“These conferences are an excellent opportunity for operators to talk with a number of experts in the one place and get the latest information and tools to make the most of the marketing opportunities the internet has to offer.”
A recent study published by Tourism Research Australia found that that while 80 per cent of tourism businesses have a website, about 40 per cent do not have mobile sites and less than half could take online bookings.
The Tourism Operator’s Digital Uptake Benchmark Survey reported businesses needed to significantly grow their online capacity to meet consumer demand. Recommendations included embracing more advanced website features and developing mobile websites.
The 2013 SA Tourism Online Marketing Conferences are free to accommodation and tour businesses registered on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse.
They will be held in the
- Barossa on Tuesday, 17 September
- Adelaide on Wednesday, 18 September,
- McLaren Vale on Thursday, 19 September.
