A $400,000 upgrade to McLaren Vale’s luxury Vineyard Retreat will today be revealed with a grand opening to be held at the property from 4pm.
The boutique accommodation’s recent revamp will boost the amount of high end accommodation on offer in the wine region and build on its reputation as a top-class tourism destination.
The Vineyard owners have upgraded four log cabin guest houses, nestled amongst a working vineyard, to four-star standards – accommodating up to 12 guests.
The South Australian Government contributed $30,000 towards the project through its Tourism Development Support Program.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell, who will speak at the opening, said the refurbishment program will help to support development of the region and increase the number of visitors to the area.
“McLaren Vale is a great place for overseas and interstate tourists to visit, as well as South Australians, so it is vital we maintain high-end accommodation which is befitting of our luxury destination,” Mr Bignell said.
“The property features its own working vineyard and is just a short distance from some of the finest cellar doors and restaurants on offer in this world-class food and wine region.
“There is an outdoor spa set on a hill with views overlooking stunning vineyards and nearby hills. You can see all the way to the Gulf St Vincent on the horizon.”
The Vineyard has four private and distinguished lodges, named The Strand, The Ardmore, The Manhattan and The Highland, surrounded by 11 acres of vines.
Each refurbished lodge features a log fire and French doors leading to private outdoor verandas with spectacular views. They are owned by Anthea and Stuart Cross, who between them have worked and grown up in hotels and B&Bs in London and California.
“We felt there was an opportunity to bring luxurious, high-end vineyard accommodation to McLaren Vale,” Mrs Cross said.
“We are already seeing it attract interstate and overseas guests who are not only after a special experience on our working vineyard property, but also the region itself.”
The Vineyard Retreat is located at 165 Whitings Road, Blewitt Springs. To find out more, visit the Vineyard Retreat's website.
