German sprint star André Greipel will vie for a third Santos Tour Down Under victory when he returns to South Australia with the Lotto Belisol team this month.
The 30-year-old will be joined by Australian teammate Adam Hansen and New Zealand rider Gregory Henderson, along with fellow German Marcel Sieberg.
Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Mike Turtur said the Lotto Belisol team would be eager to impress.
“Greipel is part of an elite group of three riders to have won the Santos Tour Down Under twice, and was first across the finish line in three stages of the 2012 edition of the race,” Mr Turtur said.
“He notched up more wins at the Tour de France, where he also took out three stages, and looks set to bring his impressive form into the new UCI WorldTour season.”
The 2013 Santos Tour Down Under will begin in Adelaide and visit the Adelaide Hills, the Barossa and the Fleurieu Peninsula before returning for a city finish.
“Greipel is a formidable sight as he flies towards the finish line and race fans can again look forward to seeing him in action,” Mr Turtur said.
“Sprint stages feature throughout the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under and we expect plenty of close battles as the world’s best riders begin their quest for points in the new cycling season.”
The Lotto Belisol roster also features Belgian riders Olivier Kaisen, Jürgen Roelandts and Tim Wellens.
The Lotto Belisol team for the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under will be led by Team Manager Herman Frison and includes riders André Greipel (GER), Adam Hansen (AUS), Gregory Henderson (NZL), Olivier Kaisen (BEL), Jurgen Roelandts (BEL), Marcel Sieberg (GER) and Tim Wellens (BEL).
More rider and team announcements will be issued over the coming week.
The Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 20-27 January 2013.
