SA FACES

Kelly Menhennett

Kelly Menhennett Kelly Menhennett

Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre will be showcasing the best of the region at the 2012 NAB Barossa Gourmet Weekend, August 18-19. Off the back of her recent Telstra Road to Discovery Songwriter win, local songstress Kelly Menhennett will entertain the Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre crowd over the weekend with her gritty-edged blues to rootsy, melodic folk and smoky, sultry jazz. Although away on the road a lot, Kelly is passionate about the place she calls home: “The Barossa oozes charm and character which hits you fair in the face (in a good way) as soon as you drive into the area. I am a big foodie and wine lover so constantly wear a grin when I visit - I love the farmer's market, Maggie's Farm, the charming towns and cellar door such as the Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre.... and best of all its only a short drive from the city!” Kelly says her songs are inspired by her life experience and “my surrounds here in SA or from my travels” and, although she’s pretty experienced as a performer now, she still suffers “a few butterflies” before she goes on stage. It’s worth it though: “As soon as I hit those guitar strings and break out into song I'm in my element. I love the connection, interaction and gratification I have as a performer,” she says. While she doesn’t get much time off from her musical career, she has a lot of favourite South Australian holiday destinations. "Lazing on our beautiful beaches, camping on the banks of the Murray or in the Flinders Ranges or escaping to a B&B in one of our stunning wine regions are my favourite things to do... sorry I really can't pick one!”
