Food and wine enthusiasts will this week flock to South Australia as the State serves up the country’s premier food and wine festival, Tasting Australia.
Starting today, more than 150 of the world’s best chefs, restaurateurs, food media, winemakers, brewers and educators will converge to celebrate the State’s food and wine credentials in a fun and lively atmosphere.
Tourism Minister Gail Gago said this year’s Tasting Australia would again profile South Australia as a premier food and wine destination.
“South Australia has a strong culinary reputation and is known for hosting great festivals and Tasting Australia is a wonderful way to bring these strengths together,” Minister Gago said.
“A diverse program has been created to present the very best in food, wine, beer, the culinary arts, travel and lifestyle around Adelaide and the regions.”
The event program includes more than 80 associated events held around South Australia at which people will have the opportunity to cook and dine with celebrity chefs, join food photography and writing classes and attend cooking classes.
“A highlight of this year’s program is the free BankSA Feast for the Senses in Elder Park this Saturday and Sunday,” Minister Gago said.
“More than 30,000 people are expected to join in the festivities at the BankSA Feast for the Senses where they can sample over 100 varieties of produce and watch cooking demonstrations, attend the Selector Word of Mouth debates and celebrity book signings.
“On Saturday, visitors can also watch Black Caviar’s race live on a big screen and sample a Black Caviar inspired salmon dish created by InterContinental Adelaide’s Executive Chef, Tony Hart.”
With more than 260 cellar doors and a range of environments including Tuscan-style hills, limestone soils and a number of wine regions, South Australia’s diversity will be on show during Tasting Australia.
“As visitors and the media make their way around the State, they’ll realise just why South Australians are so proud of their food and wine heritage,” Minister Gago said.
“Our wonderful regional hospitality will also give visitors insight into the stories behind the food and wine and the people who produce it. Tasting Australia 2012 is a brilliant platform to showcase our food and wine."
