Tour cyclists head to the hills

24 January 2013

BikeExchange.com.au Stage 3 of the Santos Tour Down Under will see riders covering the
139 kilometre race route from Unley to Stirling.

The stage follows yet another successful race yesterday, which saw 108,000 spectators line
the route from Mount Barker to Rostrevor.

Cycling fans who head to Stirling to watch the race will enjoy some great viewing, with the race
for the first time passing through the town five times before crossing the finish line.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said huge numbers of people were expected to head to the
Adelaide Hills today to see one of the most exciting stages of the Santos Tour Down Under.

“The third stage of the Tour provides spectators with the unique opportunity of seeing the
world’s best cyclists pass multiple times at vantage points along the race route at Stirling,”
Minister Bignell said.

“Visitors should make a day of it and take the opportunity to explore the region.

“The Adelaide Hills is the land of long lunches and curious creatures, and provides the perfect
backdrop for a day of racing and entertainment.”

A new initiative, World Detours Down Under, was introduced for the 2013 Santos Tour Down
Under and encourages visitors to plan their time around the race.

Detours highlights around BikeExchange.com.au Stage 3 include King William Road at Hyde
Park, the Cleland Wildlife Park, Bridgewater Mill and the Stirling Hotel.
