With less than two months to go until the Santos Tour Down Under, communities, businesses and households are getting ready to go head to head in the Santos Best Dressed Town competition.
Tourism Minister Gail Gago said next year’s competition was a key part of the community events linked to the Santos Tour Down Under.
“The Santos Tour Down Under is more than just a race, it’s a festival of cycling and the Santos Best Dressed Town competition is a great way for the community to showcase the different regionsaround South Australia,” Ms Gago said.
“Santos Best Dressed Town continues to grow and with the race’s 15th birthday celebrations nextyear, we’re expecting the competition to be bigger and better than ever.
“In 2013 we are also excited to include a new initiative – Detours – which will showcase and promote the best food, wine and attractions that regions and towns hosting a stage have to offer to visitors and spectators.”
Communities, businesses and households situated on race route stages 1 to 5 are encouraged to enter the competition and challenge their neighbours to some friendly rivalry.
All entrants will appear on the Santos Tour Down Under website with a small profile and image.Nominations received before 17 December 2012 will also be included in the pre-event mediarelease.
Daily winners will be announced after each stage, with the overall category winner announced at the end of the Santos Tour Down Under.
Prizes include signed jerseys, Peats Soil and the pride of being named Santos Best Dressed Town.
To guarantee a spot in the competition, towns, businesses and private residences should nominate themselves at least two days prior to the race coming through their town.
Nomination forms are available online at www.tourdownunder.com.au and should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Tuesday 22 January 2013 – Stage 1 (Prospect to Lobethal)
Wednesday 23 January 2013 – Stage 2 (Mount Barker to Rostrevor)
Thursday 24 January 2013 – BikeExchange.com.au Stage 3 (Unley to Stirling)
Friday 25 January 2013 – Bupa Stage 4 (Modbury to Tanunda)
Saturday 26 January 2013 – Jayco Stage 5 (McLaren Vale to Old Willunga Hill)
