Williamstown wins Santos Best Dressed Town
20 January 2012
Riders in today’s Santos Tour Down Under Bupa Stage Four were greeted by a brilliantly decorated Williamstown, the winning town in the fourth day of the Santos Best Dressed Town competition.
Williamstown was bright and festive, decorated with ribbons, banners and signs in yellow. The Santos Judging Panel said they were impressed by Williamstown’s community pride and spirit.
“Williamstown was very welcoming and various community groups were involved in decorating the town,” the Panel said.
“They also had the stage maps printed on the local bakery bags. “There were lots of international flags up and signs in different languages welcoming international travellers.
“Williamstown’s environmental initiatives included reusing materials from different years,” the Panel said.
The Santos Best Dressed Town Competition has been a part of the Santos Tour Down Under since the inaugural race in 1999 and is a great way for South Australian businesses and households to be a part of the excitement during the Santos Festival of Cycling.
Williamstown will go into the running to become the overall Santos Best Dressed Town winner – a title that celebrates the individuals and communities that participate each year.
The overall category winner will be announced at the end of the Santos Tour Down Under. Stage winners of the Santos Best Dressed Town competition will win prizes including framed and signed race jerseys, gift packs and garden products from Peats Soil and Garden Supplies.
Tomorrow’s Jayco Stage Five is 151.5 kilometres from McLaren Vale to Old Willunga Hill.
